If you want to read something by a rather unknown author with a feel of self-publishing, get "Penpal" by Dathan Auerbach. If you like amazing horror stories, check out Robert Jackson Bennett who is amazeballs. Don't read "The Culling" because it is like a student's work for creative writing.

You like creepy stuff with a circus? Get the amazing HBO-show "Carnivale" and be deeply engaged with the characters, the story and the fine execution. The book was released in 2015, by the way. In fact, I don't even know when this is supposedly taking place as people still use mobile phones without cameras and think that Eminem is the kind of music, the hip kids of today are listening to (don't worry, these are no spoilers). I understand that someone who likes generic writing (with no individual narrative whatsoever) would kinda like this, but only in a 3-4 stars-range because seriously - The Culling is like an excercise in horror writing (from the 90s or 80s) but it's not actually good horror writing.

Do you know who Garth Marenghi is? He is the fictional Alter Ego by Matthew Holness, combining everything god-awful about out-dated horror authors - bland and stereotypical characters, insanely dumb dialogues and shock-effects that are close to the absurd (also: weird sex-stuff that is mostly as unpleasant as seeing your grandma buying lube).Īnthony Hulse is the real-life Garth Marenghi and I didn't know these kind of authors existed until I was tricked into reading his book by a load of probably BS ratings that in no universe ever could have come from real people. In fact, this is the cheesiest, by the numbers-horror-book I've ever read. If you consider reading this book because of the awesome ratings on this site and on Amazon (oh my, apparently 90% are giving 5 stars, this must be amazing), I suggest, you stop right now.
